Stop what you're doing and read Why Everything Is Bad for You in the New York Times. The author, Jim Windolf, discusses all the food scares that have surfaced over the past few years and the subsequent declarations that we can't eat entire food groups. Although I'm not necessarily on board with his decision to go back to eating the Wonderbread and bologna of our elementary school lunches, I think he offers some food for thought.
There is a lot of information about food out there on the internet and a lot of it is well-researched and valid, but the internet also allows anyone to publish their thoughts - including me. Personally, I take everything with a grain of salt and make an effort to eat thoughtfully. Health scares surface on a weekly basis and often give us completely conflicting information about what makes up the ideal diet. I'm refraining from a rant about toxins and juicing but I'm sure there will be one on this blog in the future.
I publish a lot of dessert recipes on this site because I love baking and the science of everything that happens when you mix a few ingredients together and apply heat. I know desserts aren't healthy and maybe aren't something you should eat every day. But I hope you make some of these dishes and thoroughly and thoughtfully enjoy them, because food is fun (and delicious).
P.S. My elementary school lunch was plain cream cheese on potato bread. Every. Single. Day.
